Part of the book is on fiqh and there is also a part on usool al fiqh. For this course, the collection on fiqh is studied and it begins with first defining fiqh.

The reason for choosing this topic is to understand the development of the science of fiqh and how, over centuries, without any interval, our scholars worked in this field and developed it, and alhamdulillah now we have very advanced fiqh. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Shia have the most sophisticated fiqh among the schools in Islam or even outside Islam. If you go outside Islam, it’s even more clearer that they don’t have this much attention to fiqh.

Al-Bāb al-Hādī ʿAshar (Arabic: الباب الحادي عشر), literally meaning, “The Eleventh Chapter”, is in fact the eleventh chapter of Minhaj al-salih fi mukhtasar al-misbah. It is one of the most famous classic texts on Kalām or Islamic Theology, and was written by al-‘Allama al-Hilli (d. 726/1325). Minhaj al-salih fi mukhtasar al-misbah (The Path of the Righteous on Summarizing al-Misbah) is a summary of al-Shaykh al-Tusi’s Misbah al-mutahajjid, a book of supplications and rituals. Allamah al-Hilli completed his summary in ten chapters, but added an eleventh chapter to discuss the doctrinal beliefs of Islam. He felt he should add this chapter since the validity of acts of worship is dependent on the correctness of one’s belief, and the pleasure of worship comes only after knowing God.

There are tens of commentaries and translations of this book. Among these commentaries, that of al-Fadil al-Miqdad (d. 826/1425), al-Nafi’ yawm al-Hashr fi sharh bab al-hadi ‘ashar, has attained distinction among scholars and Islamic seminaries.
